Moyzes quartet

Since its foundation in 1975 the Moyzes Quartet has been one of the most famous chamber ensembles in Slovakia. The members of the Quartet graduated from the Bratislava Academy of Music and Performing Arts (under professor T.Gasparek). They promoted their studies at Hochschule fur Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (under professors F.Samohyl, G.Pichler).

During their studies they were already given several laureate awards at both, domestic and international contests (e.g. in Evian, France). In the period of 1986 – 2005 the Moyzes Quartet belonged to the ensembles of the Slovak Philarmonic.

The Quartet has successfully represented the Slovak musical culture almost in all European countries as well as behind the border of our continent, in Japan, India, Marocco, the USA, Canada, Korea and Cuba. In 2000 the Moyzes Quartet was awarded the Frico Kafenda Prize and at the same time the Critics Prize. Its repertoire encompasses all styles including works of contemporary Slovak composers, some of whom directly dedicated their pieces to the Quartet. All the time they have produced compact disc recordings (up to now they have recorded more then 30 CDs: A.Albrecht, J.L.Bella, A.Dvořak, A.T.Grečaninov, W.A.Mozart, A.Moyzes, M. Moyzes, M.Ravel, F.Schmidt, B.Smetana, E. Suchoň, E.H. Grieg, G. Verdi, D.Šostakovič,... and recorded for the Slovak radio and foreign broadcasting companies.
 
 


In the last years the Quartet has given concerts at festivals: Bratislava Music Spring, New Slovak Music, Bratislava Music Festival (BHS), Melos-Etos, Prague Spring, at festivals in Bad Kissingen and Salzburg. In 2001 the Moyzes Quartet gave excellent performances  at festivals in Denmark, Germany, France, Austria, Slovenia, Faeroe Islands and New York (during the Month of Slovak Culture). Towards the end of 2001 the Quartet took part in the project The First Common Presentation of Central-European Cultural Platform in Brussels. In 2002 the members of the Quartet performed at music festivals in Germany, France, Italy, Luxemburg as well as at BHS and the Brno Music Festival. In 2004 the Quartet gave concerts in numerous Slovak towns and in Austrian Goldegg. Since 2006 the Moyzes Quartet has been the town of Modra chamber ensemble. Since 2008 the Moyzes Quartet is the chamber ensemble of Skalica City.
